What EMSELLA Works On

The muscles and functions EMSELLA targets

HIFEM® energy passes through the seat of the chair and reaches the whole pelvic floor — the muscle group that supports the bladder, bowel and intimate function.

Pelvic Floor

Deep supramaximal contractions across the entire pelvic floor muscle group.

Bladder Control

Supports the muscles involved in stress, urge and mixed urinary leakage.

Core & Posture

The pelvic floor works with the deep core, so support here helps everyday stability.

Intimate Wellness

Tone and sensation for both women and men, assessed privately at consultation.

Emsella may be suitable for women and men experiencing pelvic floor weakness, reduced bladder control, or symptoms that affect confidence, comfort and intimate wellbeing. Common concerns include leakage when laughing, coughing, sneezing or exercising, and a sudden urge to urinate.

A course of six sessions over three weeks is typically recommended. Individual results vary, with many clients noticing improvements after just two or three sessions.

  • Needing to rush to the toilet, or going too often

Benefits

Benefits of EMSELLA for Bladder Control, Pelvic Floor Strength & Intimate Wellness

The pelvic floor supports the bladder, bowel and intimate function in both men and women, and it weakens for many reasons — childbirth, ageing, prostate surgery, heavy lifting, high-impact sport and hormonal change including menopause. EMSELLA triggers thousands of supramaximal contractions per session, far more than exercises alone, so clients come to our Peterborough clinic when pelvic floor training has stalled or is difficult to do consistently.

How it works

What to Expect, Step by Step

The pathway is deliberately simple: a consultation to confirm suitability, then a short course of fully clothed 28-minute sessions. Most clients notice a difference partway through the course, with results continuing to settle in the weeks afterwards and occasional maintenance sessions keeping them there.

  1. 01

    Private Consultation

We begin by discussing your concerns, goals and suitability in a discreet, professional setting.

  2. 02

    Personalised Plan

Your practitioner recommends a treatment plan based on your needs and pelvic floor wellness goals.

  3. 03

    Fully Clothed Session

You sit on the Emsella chair while HIFEM technology stimulates deep pelvic floor contractions.

  4. 04

    Return to Your Day

The treatment is non-invasive and involves no downtime, so many clients continue their day as normal.

Take control of pelvic floor, bladder and intimate confidence. A short consultation confirms whether Emsella is right for you and maps out your personal plan.

Emsella pelvic floor therapy in Peterborough — what the treatment actually involves

Emsella uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to contract the entire pelvic floor. A single 28-minute session produces the equivalent of thousands of supramaximal contractions — a level of activation that voluntary Kegel exercises cannot reach, particularly when oestrogen decline has already weakened the muscle and thinned the surrounding tissue. You remain fully clothed and seated throughout.

Who this treatment suits

  • Stress urinary incontinence — leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh, lift or exercise.
  • Urge incontinence and frequency, including waking more than once a night to pass urine.
  • Post-natal pelvic floor weakness that has not recovered with exercise alone.
  • Perimenopausal and menopausal changes in bladder control, pelvic support or intimate sensation.
  • Men with post-prostatectomy incontinence or reduced pelvic floor tone.
  • Anyone who finds pelvic floor exercises difficult to perform correctly or consistently.

What to expect, step by step

  1. 01

    Consultation and suitability check

We review your symptoms, medical history, medications and any previous pelvic surgery, and confirm there are no metal implants or devices that rule out HIFEM. If your symptoms suggest something other than muscle weakness, we refer you back to your GP rather than treating.

  2. 02

    Positioning on the chair

You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed. There is no undressing, no gel and no probe. The therapist adjusts your position so the electromagnetic field is centred on the pelvic floor.

  3. 03

    The 28-minute session

Intensity is increased gradually to your comfort level. You feel strong tingling and involuntary pelvic contractions — unusual at first, but not painful. Most clients read or scroll their phone throughout.

  4. 04

    Straight back to your day

There is no recovery period. You stand up and leave; some clients notice mild muscle fatigue in the pelvic area for a few hours, similar to after a workout.

Your session plan

Session length
28 minutes on the chair, around 40 minutes in clinic including consultation.
Standard course
Six sessions, two per week over three weeks.
First results
Most clients report a change after the third or fourth session.
Maintenance
One top-up session every six to twelve months for many clients.

Aftercare

  • No downtime — drive home, return to work or exercise immediately.
  • Drink water normally; there is no need to restrict fluids before or after treatment.
  • Keep doing any pelvic floor exercises your physiotherapist has prescribed — Emsella complements them.
  • Track your leaks or pad use through the course so improvement can be measured objectively.

When this treatment is not suitable

  • Metal or electronic implants in the treatment area, including pacemakers, defibrillators, drug pumps and metallic IUDs.
  • Pregnancy, or within three months of giving birth.
  • Active malignancy, or recent surgery in the pelvic region without surgical clearance.
  • Epilepsy, or an implanted neurostimulator.
  • Symptoms that suggest infection, prolapse requiring assessment or a neurological cause — these need medical review first.

Emsella treats pelvic floor muscle weakness. It is not hormone therapy and does not address hot flushes, night sweats or sleep disturbance, so if those are your main concerns we will say so at consultation. View prices and packages or check travel details from your town.
